JumboCuties!!!

I had an idea.

It’s not easy for me to find great yarn to make amigurumi with. I usually have to wait until I can get to a Hobby Lobby, the nearest being 4 hours away from home, to buy good acrylic yarn. So I decided to use two strands together from my very much loved “I love this yarn” and I made this for Christmas:

This is about 12” and I made it for my sister’s goddaughter

and this:

this is about 8”; it was for my niece

And now, with this precedent; I give you the first of my JumboCuties!:

I’m hoping to do a whole series, like a lion, a zebra, a dog, an elephant, a bear………….

Virgin Mary

My SisterInLaw (see what I did there? I don’t like dashes that much) asked me to make a Virgin Mary for her mom (my MotherInLaw haha) so here it is:

Ballerina & Jazzerina

The summer festival of the school where my 10yo is was last week. It was a Cinderella ballet/jazz/break dance festival, and my daughter went as one of the harlequins that danced at the ball where Cinderella and the Prince met. So this inspired me to make a pair of amis for her teachers to show our appreciation and gratitude  for inspiring my girl to one of the greatest joys in life: to dance.

They were made with no pattern and making it up as I went along. I even made a head first, but then when I made the body it was way to big so I made another head; they both were made from the feet up.

Jude the Apostle

My sister had been asking me to make this for a while now, and as I am determined to complete all of my requests from friends and family, I got to it.

He was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus, and is very popular here in Mexico.

El chavo del 8

I’m sorry for not translating the title, I don’t know how to do that Sonrisa

This is a very loved character that has been around for literally ages, I used to watch this tv show when I was a little girl and it was not new at the time. It is huge in Latin America.

It is a sitcom of a group of people who were neighbors in what here in Mexico we call “vecindad”, which is basically a group of very small houses together that share something like a backyard. It was very very successful for all the years that aired, and now little children know it because there’s an animated series.

So, that’s why I did it, my nephew asked for it!!

Personally, I was saddened for the character because it is of a poor boy who is always hungry and would climb into a barrel to hide, and I thought that this is where he lived! He did not, his creator Roberto Gomez Bolaños has cleared up.

Honestly, I thought it has big cheeks but the eyes, I loved!!!

WIP *Tangled*

Hi!

This is what I've been working on, a little Rapunzel from Tangled. It's for my niece who just turned 6 I think (can't believe she's so grown up!!!!!).

Of course, my own four year old, who by the way had this past January her birthday party Tangled themed, wants one also. Of course she'll get it ;)

Anyways, I used the Free Spirit Pattern, and I LOVED IT! I'll be making many many more!!!!!

Here are some pictures, some are from my cellphone so they're not so good. Good pics coming when the dolls are finished.

I plan to sew the skirt part of her dress (with fabric, I mean, LOL)

**Share the fun ^~^ **

Dora the Explorer

This is my record!! I had promised my cousin to make a Dora the Explorer for her sweet sweet baby girl´s 1st birthday party, but as usual I was over confident and started a little too late. The very day of the party. Actually, I started it the night before, Saturday night as I was watching American Idol (yes, in Mexico it is shown on Sat & Sun), but I was way to tired to do it.
Not to mention I had no yarn resembling the exact color of her skin (Dora´s), so I tried to make her light creamy but my two older daughters immediately protested saying that Dora wasn’t that color, so I changed it for the darkest, which is a little darker than I would have chosen but what´ya gonna do. I didn´t have the time to run to the store.
So everything went well, except I had to get to the party with a Dora with no arms and no backpack, and I finished her right there. The important thing is that she was delivered and my extremely cute baby niece LOVED IT, she even took her to sleep with her.
And that is the purpose of my amigurumi, you know? To get a big smile out of the people I make them for.
So enough of the babbling, here are the pics:

So I´m specially happy with this one, because I did it in a day!! Scratch that, I did it in a morning!!

Nick Jonas

Here is my latest amigurumi, Nick Jonas. I have been putting it off for AGES, I was a little afraid of the hair and then. the guitar. But I think it turned out pretty cute, ha?

Be careful, this post has LOTS of photos.
